Albanian is the language of the indigenous population of Albania and part of the population of Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and also Italy. About 7 million people speak this language!
Origin
According to some linguists, it originated from the Illyrian languages, a group of Indo-European languages that were used in the western Balkans, presumably until the 6th century.
Language influence
The Albanian language has borrowed some words from the Greek language and a large amount of vocabulary from the Latin language. Then it came under the influence of the languages of the Slavic and Germanic tribes that settled on the territory of the Balkans, and from the 9th century, the borrowing of words from the Balkan Latin and the Vlach language was also observed in the Albanian language.
Dialects
In total, the Albanian language has 2 dialects. 1st is Toskësisht and 2nd is Gegërisht. Geographically, they are separated from each other by the Shkumbini River. Toskësisht is recognized as the official dialect of Albania. In the central part of the state, a mixed version of these dialects is used.
