History of BDT
Since July 1948, the Pakistani rupee has been in force in East Pakistan. In 1971, the independence of Bangladesh was proclaimed. The following year, the Bank of Bangladesh began operations and a new currency, the taka, was introduced. In the same year, the Bank of Bangladesh began issuing banknotes.
