BD currency

The Bahraini dinar is the national currency of the Kingdom of Bahrain, equal to 1000 fils. The code for this currency in the ISO 4217 standard is BHD and the symbol BD is also used. From 1966 to 1973, this currency was the national currency of the emirate of Abu Dhabi (UAE), until it was replaced by the dirham. The dinar is pegged to the US dollar.

History of the Bahraini Dinar

The Bahraini dinar was put into circulation on October 11, 1965, replacing the Persian Gulf rupee (10 rupees = 1 dinar). The following year, the Bahraini dinar became the currency of the Principality of Abu Dhabi, until it was replaced by the dirham (AED) in 1973. Bahraini currency was issued first by the Bahrain Monetary Board and then by the Central Bank of Bahrain.
