The Czech koruna is the currency of the Czech Republic and is formally divided into 100 hellers, but coins in hellers are not currently used. After the collapse of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Czech koruna replaced the Czechoslovakian Czech koruna on the territory of the new state. At the same time, the Slovak Czech koruna appeared in Slovakia.
Currently in circulation are coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 crowns, and banknotes in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 crowns. The most common of these is 1000 crowns. Due to the image of František Palacký on the front side of the banknote, it can often be called “Palacký”.
